Emergency Shelters in Springfield Maxwell, Klayton, Sierra, Addison The red flag we chose dealing with Housing was the critical need for emergency shelter. Homeless people are not getting enough help to get on their feet. Especially the lack of shelter beds. There are multiple reasons why a person would need an overnight emergency bed, like those fleeing domestic violence, those leaving care institutions into homelessness, etc. A lot of the actual places to use have specified hours that they are willing to accept people. (springfieldmo.gov). One blue ribbon is that, â€Å"A new model called Housing First is being implemented in Springfield and around the country to focus on providing people experiencing homelessness with housing as quickly as possible—and then providing services as needed.† (CFR). â€Å"There could be as many as 15 to 20 homeless people in the Greene County jail at any given time.† (Homeless Task Force 2010). There are currently more than 750 homeless, and over 250 are without shelter each night. There is currently more than $1,000,000 in funding to support the homeless people in Greene County and the Ozarks. The ideal state is having no homeless, but that probably won’t happen.
